Nkareng Mpobane appointed Chief Investment Officer at Ashburton Investments

Ashburton Investments, the asset management arm of the FirstRand group, has appointed Nkareng Mpobane as Chief Investment Officer: Fund Management.

She takes up the role from Deputy Chief Investment Officer, Fund Management. Her new position covers the entire long only fund range, including South Africa, Jersey and Luxembourg.

Nkareng, who hails from Queenstown in the Eastern Cape, joined Ashburton Investments in 2012 and has been instrumental in the success of the fund management business.

She has over 13 years of experience in the investment industry and has been integrally involved in both the local and offshore investment processes. Prior to joining Ashburton Investments, she worked at RMB Private Bank Portfolio Management for six years, managing private clients, institutional clients and trust portfolios.

Nkareng takes over the role from Paolo Senatore who after over 20 years with the FirstRand Group, will pursue other interests in investing outside the group.

In the next few weeks, Ashburton Investments will also be appointing a Chief Investment Office of Private Markets. This role will include responsibility for the unlisted asset classes such as private debt, mezzanine finance, private equity and direct property.

The splitting of role of Chief Investment Officer into two different and distinct areas will better enable the scaling and focus of Ashburton Investments’ business.
