Leanne Manas appointed UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador

Leanne Manas, anchor of SABC2's flagship breakfast show, Morning Live, has been appointed a United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) Goodwill Ambassador.

Her first official role as a UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador for South Africa will be to participate in the Step For Safety walk in Johannesburg, South Africa on Sunday, 10 February 2019 at the Walter Sisulu National Botanical Gardens.

The Step For Safety walk encourages people to walk in solidarity with people who have been forced to flee war, conflict, violence and persecution.

“I am incredibly thrilled to be appointed a Goodwill Ambassador for UNHCR,” Manas said. "I will carry this title with all the pride it deserves and continue to be the voice of the voiceless and share love and hope where there is none!

“Since my involvement with the The Luquluqu Tribe, I have had the honour and privilege to meet resilient and courageous people who have escaped war and persecution in search of safety. Listening to their stories, I am more compelled than ever to advocate for their cause. “

Leanne is a qualified Speech and Drama teacher which she completed through London Trinity College and also has an Honours degree in English. She started her career as a weekend and late night news anchor for Talk Radio 702 and then moved to Johnnic Publishing's African Business Channel (Now Avusa Media) where she became the news anchor for Classic fm.
